Will you serve God wherever he places you?
Mark 9:33-35 – And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
Are you the cup, the sleeve, or the napkin? God calls each of us to different roles in the kingdom, and our roles may change from year to year, or even day to day. The cup is the vessel, bearing the water of life. The sleeve supports the cup, as we take the heat for one another and bear one another’s burdens. The napkin does the humble but important work of cleaning up someone else’s mess. We are never the water of life ourselves. Even “leaders” are at their best when they are empty vessels. But sometimes God may call you to be the cup, sometimes the sleeve, sometimes the napkin. Will you have the humility and the faithfulness to serve, however God may call you?
